religion

Whether or not God is real I am not at liberty to say. I believe that faith itself could be put in any form or way. Faith is the means one uses to achieve happiness. God/gods is a stepping-stone on which our faith is derived from or placed on. In our mere eighty years of life there will be countless of trails and hardships and from my analysis religion itself is a source of power.
Believing that there will be something better, atonement, or even salvation is a motivation for us. We, as fragile beings, are subjected to our emotions and grasp on to any support in reach. Naturally, friends and material objects become our obsession, our support; but mere objects cannot quench our ever-expanding desires. We explore the possibilities and exploit our surroundings. We strive to succeed, improve ourselves, the environment surrounding (debatable) us; but in the end, through all our experiences and accomplishments we still feel emptiness. That is where religions steps in and fill our need for something intangible.
The cat and string theory is the idea where if you dangle a string above a cat, it will frantically try to grab it however once the string is dropped the cat simply looks at it and moves on. Similarly, we only want the things that are out of reach. Material possessions and worldly things are meaningless to us emotionally, hence why things like love and faith are so important to us. Because it is intangible and unexplainable it will always be the string above our heads keeping us emotionally full.
